Our contribution to an open-call competition in Vienna. The design of our bridge is connecting the areas of the new security centre and the opposite side south of the railway line with the existing Theodor Körner Park and the Schedifkaplatz. The section of the bridge at Schedifkaplatz, characterised by a guided ascent beginning at the building of the subway station, frames the park along with a green, accessible open space. The staircase leading to the wide plateau that invites visitors to linger.
Bridging the railway line thus has a quality that expands and enhances the public spaces. The generously designed plateau provides direct access from the station building to the future security centre. The path between the two sides is thus designed in a way that lends the area a new character through its representative effect. Meandering paths on the bridge open up different spaces when crossing the bridge and reveal interesting views alongside the green spots bordering the pathway, which have a high quality of stay and offer space for encounters and relaxation under the shade of trees and among lush plantings.
The transitions from the paving to the green areas are designed to be continuous and flowing, creating generous spaces with soft contours. The areas where square-like expansions are created will be illuminated with a coordinated concept of adaptive and slender three-meter-high light columns.
